You could feel the air crack with anticipation before Ed Sheeran eventually made his way through the packed crowd to the stage with guitar Nigel in hand. Beginning with Grade 8, he drew the captive audience in immediately with his voice slipping gracefully between a dolorous warble and ragga-style chat-singing.
